Meet The Designer

Caitlin Rutkay launched C.R. Interior Designs in 2007 after many years in Manhattan working for venerated decorators. She brings her cultivated eye to every project, whether staging a home or building a home from the ground up. For her, each project must represent its owners and speak to their lifestyle. Comfort, functionality and precise attention to detail are hallmarks of her work.

Since 2007, Caitlin has completed renovation and decoration projects throughout Essex, Morris, Union and Somerset counties, as well as Manhattan and Westchester. Her Nap Room at the Twin Maples showhouse (Summit, NJ 2008) was featured in Showhouses 2, A Decorators’ Tour by Jeffrey B. Snyder (Schiffer 2010). She is a two time participant in Mansion In May and her work has twice been featured in NJ Monthly.

About The Project

“A Tale of Two Sisters”

A true testament to word of mouth: referring your designer to your sibling! The photos here are of 5 lovely baths – unique not only because of the fun materials but also because they are the homes of two sisters I designed for. Both bought homes in South Orange, NJ and did extensive renovations prior to moving in. Both wanted specialty tile and not just the basics, but required all the elements to stand the test of time. Enter Mediterranean Tile.

With a blend of both porcelain tile and natural stone these 5 baths came together to be both highly functional and seriously beautiful.

“Bamboo Powder Room,” a jewelbox space,  features green onyx micro mosaic on the floor. This seems to shimmer like faceted gems and evokes exactly the upscale feeling the clients desired.

“Beachy Blues” is a hall bath for children. The concept was simple blue and white that has a beach spa feel. Rather than natural stone, a porcelain 12 x 12 was used on the floor using a glass mosaic insert. 3 x 6 subway appears on the walls outside the tub, while the glass mosaic creates the shower walls above the tub.

“Retro Mod” is a hall bath for children as well, featuring both a tub and a shower, and a two color textured porcelain floor.

“Quiet Master Bath” highlights a custom Artistic Tile fan patterned mosaic. Planned around this white palette, we added a floor mosaic to tie in and a natural stone main floor.

“Bold Master Bath,” with its striking wall color and amber-wood mosaic wall feature, is a luxurious retreat with both porcelain and natural calcatta marble tiles.
