Our History

Mediterranean Tile has been providing the tri-state area with the finest and most exclusive selection of tile and natural stone since it opened its doors in 1993. Located in Fairfield, NJ, Mediterranean Tile is family-owned and operated by Frank Matarazzo and his sister, Maria Cappello, both of whom have extensive experience in the industry.

Matarazzo worked on the craftsman side of the businesses, while Cappello, an FIT graduate, has a background in interior design. Their combined experience, along with the expertise of their staff and a storewide passion for design, has contributed to Mediterranean Tile’s excellent reputation among homeowners, architects, designers, contractors and other members of the design community.

Since its inception, Mediterranean Tile has grown from having two employees to employing a 30-member staff and expanded in 2007 by opening a second location in Bernardsville, in order to better serve the needs of its growing client base. Every member of the design sales team has a background in design, so customers can be confident that whatever project they have in mind, and whatever they need help with, our team will go above and beyond to exceed their expectations.

Our showrooms are filled with a wide variety of custom designs and patterns for every application. And, the company’s reputation in the industry among distributors and artisans has led to exclusive relationships with these vendors, allowing us to offer customers products that can’t be found anywhere else.

Mediterranean Tile prides itself on its integrity, and is an active member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA).
